When you rent an apartment, you might think you are limited in your choices of a building. You may think that you can only afford a high-rise building or perhaps a low-rise triplex. This isn't necessarily the case, however, as there are various types of apartments you can choose that can suit not only your lifestyle but your budget as well.

Studio or Loft Apartment

A studio or loft style apartment might suit you if you prefer an open concept living space with very few walls between your rooms. They have become more popular over the years due to their relatively inexpensive cost in many areas and their ability to let the renter alter the design simply by placing screens, bookshelves or even furniture around the space to give it a completely different look anytime they want.

Garage Apartment

A garage apartment, also known as an accessory apartment, is not dissimilar to an in-law suite or basement apartment except that it is located separately from the main house in the garage. The garage might be attached to the main house but does not share living space with it. Garage apartments tend to be a bit smaller than a basement apartment but can still hold a couple of bedrooms plus a full living space. The backyard tends to be shared with the homeowners or other tenants living in the house but the prices are generally better than traditional apartments.

Hotel Apartments

If you travel a lot for work or simply because you enjoy the freedom of seeing new locations every few months than a hotel apartment might be the right choice for you. They are located in existing hotels and you have access to the building's amenities including pools, workout rooms, conference rooms and restaurants. They are typically rented on a monthly basis and there is the possibility in many of these hotels to rent long-term such as a year or so. The apartments do have their own kitchens, bathrooms and living spaces along with bedrooms.

Railroad Apartments

A fairly new concept to apartment living is known as the railroad apartment. Not unlike the hostel in which travelers live in a communal environment with shared kitchens and bathrooms but separate sleeping spaces. Railroad apartments are interconnected spaces through a shared hallway and all rooms overlap each other. If you like a close sense of community and meeting new people, this might be the right choice of apartment for you.
